INTRODUCTION

India being the member country of United Nations played a prominent role in the formulation of Sustainable Development Goals. The SDGs are being implemented in 193 member countries. In India SDGs are being implemented in all the States with the coordination from NITI Aayog. In Karnataka the Planning Department is the Nodal Department for coordinating and monitoring SDGs High level committee chaired by Chief Secretary has been constituted for SDGs guidance, policy design, review and monitoring.

Centre for Sustainable Development Goals – Karnataka was established at ATI Mysore in the year 2019-20 under the financial assistance from the Department of Planning, Programme Monitoring & Statistics, Govt. of Karnataka. The center was inaugurated by DG ATI on 15th August, 2019.The center is functioning under the overall administrative Control of Director General, ATI. Being a premier training institute of Government of Karnataka the Administrative Training Institute (ATI) was signaled out by the Planning Department to build the capacities of various line department functionaries.  The objective is to equip the line department functionaries with the knowledge of SDG targets, indicators, and monitoring strategies as also the skill of identifying the gaps in programmes and schemes to converge and reach SDGs and preparing action plan to help achieve the global goals.

An Advisory Committee has been constituted to oversee the progress of the center, guide and provide directions to ensure better functioning of the center. The Advisory Committee is chaired by the Principal Secretary of the Department of Planning, Programme Monitoring & Statistics, Govt. of Karnataka.  Other members of the committee include Commissioner, Health & Family welfare, Commissioner, Rural Development and Panchayti Raj ministry, Commissioner, Department of Public Instructions, Director Women and Child Development, Joint Director, ATI, Mysore, and Faculty, Center for SDGs is the convener.

VISION AND OBJECTIVES:

To emerge as a State level think-tank to formulate plans, build capacities, evaluate the progress and send feedback to the policy makers, undertake research.

Objectives of the Center:

  1. Conduct material Development Workshops
  2. Develop SDG Trainers through ToT
  3. Undertake Action Research and Concurrent Evaluation
  4. Document Best Practices & Case Studies
  5. Updates on the dashboard (using e-platform).
  6. Upload e-Learning Modules which also works as online Learning & Training.
  7. Recognize the best implementers for incentivizing
  8. Networking and partner with other Government organizations/Non-Government Organizations/ International organizations/agencies for exchange of views & information.

Programmes conducted:

  1. Writers Workshop held on 18-20 October, 2019 to develop reading materials on SDGs.
  2. Training of Trainers (ToT) held on 17-20 January, 2019. Participants were invited from Kalburgi Division.
  3. Prepared guidelines and syllabus for the certificate course through “Massive Open Online Course” (MOOC) and submitted to Mysore University

 

Upcoming Programmes during 2019-20:

  1. District and Taluk level training programmes in January, 2020 covering all 6 Districts of Kalburgi Division Viz; Bidar, Bellary, Kalburgi, Koppal, Raichur and Yadgir
  2. National level workshop on Convergence to discuss the gaps and convergence of schemes
  3. International Conference to share best practices and way forward.
